Manual Lymphatic Drainage
In the human body there are two systems that move fluid: 1) the Circulatory System that circulates blood through a closed system to the heart and lungs via tubular vessels called Veins, Arteries and vascular capillaries.2) the Lymphatic System transports fluid, proteins, cellular debris, water, fatty acids and lymphocytes via lymph capillaries, pre collectors, and lymph-angions through the Lymph Nodes for the purpose of filtering cellular debris and housing new Lymphocytes for the immune system.
When a person doesn’t drink enough water (coffee, tea and soda don't count) and eat balanced healthy food, the lymphatic system doesn’t filter correctly leaving behind cellular debris and proteins. This can back up the transportation and filtration process causing clogged lymph nodes that becomes a collection of fluid and swelling in your extremities r head and neck. Important to know, fluid can back up in both systems and that is why it is important to get medical advise,a diagnosis and treatment!
Besides dehydration and a poor diet, there are many things that injure the lymphatic system which interrupt the flow resulting in edema (a collection of fluid) or the problems can be congenital (from birth).
Manual Lymph Drainage is a hands on therapy using very specific techniques and protocols to unclog the main draining areas, transporting pathways, filtering and excellerating flow, TEN fold! This enables body to work in synergy with the circulatory system resulting in the reduction of edema/swelling, as well as manufacturing of new lymphocytes which are necessary for the immune system. If you are diagnosed with an autoimmune deficiency, you may want to discuss with your doctor a series of Manual Lymphatic Drainage Therapy sessions.
Sometimes the use of compression garments assist with the management of the fluid and its evacuation, but also will prevent backflow. These medical grade garments require individualized measuring and follow up assistance for the clients safety and best results. Use of non medical grade garments without the consent of a physician could result in further damaged tissue and complications.
